Everything you need to know about the 2017 Disciple Women’s Retreat

The retreat committee will be adding frequently everything that you will need to plan and prepare for this year’s retreat.

#1:  How to register

Registration is now open.  To register, download, print and mail in your registration form today. The early bird deadline is May 1, 2017.

#2: What to bring:  Please bring your own linens, towels, pillow, blanket. This is necessary for us to be able to keep the costs of the retreat as low as we can. Other items:  money for mission bingo, Your bible, a copy of our selected book (more details soon) if you are participating in the book discussion, flashlight (optional), offerings (circle offering, offering for Sunday worship), personal toiletries.

#3: Meet our Retreat Leader:  Rev. Dr. Christal Williams

Dr.. Williams, is the current president of the Disciple Women Leadership Council. She is
the first woman and African American woman to serve as regional minister in Tennessee.  Prior to serving the Tennessee region, she served as one of the Associate Regional Ministers for the Urban Metro Area (Plus) Congregations in the Illinois-Wisconsin Region of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ).

As an influential leader and relationship cultivator Dr. Christal takes to heart her personal mission to love, equip and encourage all persons toward a reconciling relationship with God. Her tenure in ministry has been widespread throughout Illinois, Iowa, Ohio, and Indiana. Dr. Christal has engaged in ministry around the world; having traveled extensively to China, Guatemala, Puerto Rico, Israel-Palestine, Egypt, West and South Africa, and Europe for Ministry and Cross-cultural exchanges. She is committed to ecumenism, accompaniment, hospitality and nurturing global partnerships.
A native of Cleveland, Ohio, Dr. Christal graduated from the Cleveland School of the Performing Arts, where she had a special emphasis on Vocal Music and Theory. She earned a Bachelor’s Degree from Jarvis Christian College, Hawkins, Texas; a Master of Divinity Degree from Christian Theological Seminary in Indianapolis, Indiana. She holds a Doctor of Ministry degree from the United Theological Seminary in Dayton, Ohio. On June 20, 1998, Dr. Christal was ordained a minister in the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) at Southport Christian Church in Indianapolis, Indiana.   Dr. Christal is the proud Founder and President of Credo International Women’s Ministries, Incorporated and A.W.O.K.E. (Anointed Women Overseeing Kingdom Endeavors) and is the author of three books, The Power of Asking; Unleashing God’s Best For Your Life, Moving From Endangerment to Empowerment: Rediscovering the Word of God, Beneath It All: A Conversation Specifically For Women.

Please either bring your blessing box offerings to the retreat or send your offering directly to the regional office. If you would like to have your offerings blessed, please send your offerings to the regional office no later than May 25, 2017.  For accounting purposes, a separate check for each offering would be appreciated. Thank you.

#6. Woman to Woman Presentation at the Retreat

Penny Gladwell will be presenting her journey that she made in October 2016 to South Africa and Ghana as a representative for Virginia Disciple Women.  Each year Disciple Women participate in a life changing opportunity to go overseas to learn from women across the world. Virginia Disciple Women provides $2000 through your annual donations to help underwrite the costs associated with the journey for the woman selected. Each journey normally costs $5000. Your support is appreciated. Please give generously.
